Gunmen shot dead two media workers in Pakistan in 24 hours while two others were injured, officials said on Wednesday.

Unidentified men, riding a motorbike, fired at a senior journalist, Aftab Alam, in the southern port city of Karachi on Wednesday afternoon.

Geo TV said its engineer was killed when gunmen attack its van in Karachi on late Tuesday. Driver of the van was injured in the attack.

The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack on Geo TV van. A group's spokesman called the media in Pakistan by phone from Afghanistan and said its men had targeted the media workers.

A tribal journalist, Abdul Azam Shinwari, was injured when gunmen fired at him in Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, on late Tuesday. Shinwari, a reporter of the state television in Khyber tribal region, was taken to hospital for treatment.
