Former Gambian president's son arrested for corruption charges

Xinhua, September 8, 2015 Adjust font size:

The son of the former Gambian president Dawda Kairaba Jawara, Ebrihima Jawara, was arrested for corruption charges, according to police source on Monday.

He was arrested on Sunday and charged with economic crime. Jawara was the project coordinator of the Central Project Coordinating Unit (CPCU), an agricultural project under the Ministry of Agriculture.

He was appointed in 2013 as the deputy permanent secretary at the ministry of agriculture. In July 2015, he was later appointed the CPCU director.

CPCU was established to coordinate the preparation, management and oversight of agricultural development projects within the overall context of Gambia National Agricultural Investment Program (GNAIP).

Currently there are a number of donor funded agricultural development projects being implemented through the CPCU, including the Gambia commercial agriculture and value chain management project funded by the World Bank. Endit
