Actor Johnny Depp's wife no-show at Australian court case

Xinhua, September 7, 2015 Adjust font size:

Johnny Depp's film star wife Amber Heard did not appear at her court case on Monday where she was due to face charges after she allegedly smuggled their two dogs into Australia.

Their terriers Boo and Pistol also became world famous after Australia's agriculture minister Barnaby Joyce said they "should bugger off back to America."

At the time, Joyce said if they weren't taken back to the United States within 48 hours they would be put down by Australian authorities.

Heard was then charged with allegedly breaching biosecurity laws and lying on a quarantine form when she arrived on a private jet to visit Depp's then film set.

The magistrate was concerned Heard wasn't there, but her lawyer says it was not necessary for her to be.

The magistrate adjourned the case to Nov. 2.

At the Venice Film Festival over the weekend Depp appeared untroubled, joking he had killed and "eaten my dogs" and that a " sweaty, big-gutted man from Australia" had ordered him to do.

The charges carry possible penalties of up to 10 years imprisonment and fines of up to 100,000 Australian dollars. Endi
