Germany's benchmark DAX index loses 2.71 pct on Friday

The benchmark DAX index on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange on Friday dropped by more than 250 points but closed above the 10,000 points mark.

Speculation about a possible rate hike in the United States weighed on the confidence of investors here. The blue-chip index dropped below the 10,000-point mark temporarily but later recovered and closed at 10,038.04 points. It lost 279.8 points, or 2.71 percent.

Despite the slump of the DAX index, Deutsche Lufthansa AG advanced markedly by 4.99 percent. All the other 29 DAX member shares fell.

The two utility companies RWE AG St and E.ON SE dropped the most, plummeting 5.27 percent and 5.26 percent respectively. ThyssenKrupp AG fell by 4.75 percent. Bayer AG dropped 4.04 percent and Deutsche Bank AG went down by 4.04 percent.

The turnover stood at 4.25 billion euros (around 4.75 billion U.S. dollars). Daimler AG was the most traded share of the day with a turnover of 382.99 million euros (around 428.46 million U.S. dollars). Endit
