UN chief slams suicide terror attacks against mosque in Yemen

Xinhua, September 5, 2015 Adjust font size:

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Friday condemned "in the strongest possible terms" suicide terror attacks against a Yemeni mosque that left more than 30 people and almost 100 others injured.

The attacks occurred in the northern Jarraf district of Sanaa during evening prayers on Wednesday. "Such attacks against places of worship are not justifiable under any circumstances," said a statement of the secretary-general's spokesperson.

The UN chief expressed his deepest condolences and sympathies to the families of the victims and expected that the perpetrators of these reprehensible acts will be swiftly brought to justice, according to the statement.

According to media reports, minutes after a suicide bomber blew himself up inside the mosque, a car bomb was detonated outside. The terrorist Islamic State, also known as ISIL or ISIS, claimed responsibility on social media for the attacks. Enditem
