Palestinian security officials confirm Israeli attack on Hamas target in Gaza

Xinhua, September 3, 2015 Adjust font size:

Israeli warplanes fired two missiles on a training post belonging to militants of the Islamic movement of Hamas in northern Gaza Strip early on Thursday, security officials and witnesses said.

The security officials confirmed that Israeli war jets, hovering over the Gaza Strip, struck with two missiles at a training post belonging to Al-Qassam Brigades, the Islamic movement's armed wing, but caused no injuries.

Eyewitnesses in Gaza said they heard the buzz of Israeli war jets and then heard two huge explosions in northern Gaza Strip, adding that a Hamas military training facility was targeted in the area.

The Israeli military said earlier that it attacked targets in the Gaza Strip overnight, after bullets were fired from the enclave toward a southern Israeli community.

"Yesterday, Sept. 2, shots were fired from Gaza Strip toward southern community of Netiv Ha'asara, hitting several houses," the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in the statement.

The bullets hit several homes but caused no injuries, the statement said.

"In response to the shooting, an Israeli Air Force aircraft targeted a Hamas military post in northern Gaza Strip, from where the shots were fired," the IDF statement said.

Netiv Ha'asara is the closest Israeli community to the Gaza Strip enclave, situated about 100 meters away from the Gaza border fence. Endit
