Myanmar posts trade deficit in first four months of FY 2015-16

Myanmar posted a trade deficit of 1. 846 billion U.S. dollars in the first four months (April-July) of the 2015-16 fiscal year, according to official statistics released Thursday.

Total foreign trade amounted to 9.230 billion U.S. dollars during the period. Specifically, export stood at 3.692 billion U.S. dollars, while import amounted to 5.538 billion U.S. dollars.

In July alone, total trade volume reached 3.021 billion U.S. dollars, with export taking up 1.054 billion U.S. dollars and import representing 1.967 billion U.S. dollars.

According to official statistics, Myanmar registered a trade deficit of 4.9 billion U.S. dollars in fiscal year 2014-15 (April 1 to March 31).

Myanmar mostly exports agricultural produce, animal by-products, fishery products, mine and forest products while imports consumer products, raw materials and investment goods. Endi
