Dutchwoman Schippers wins world 200m title (updated)

Xinhua, August 28, 2015 Adjust font size:

Women's 100m runner-up Dafne Schippers of the Netherlands won the 200 meters in a world championship record of 21.63 seconds at the world athletics championships here on Friday.

Elaine Thompson of Jamaica claimed silver in personal best 21.66 and her teammate Veronica Caqmpbell-Brown took bronze in 21.97.

"I hoped for the gold medal and for a time under 22s. I did both, but I can't believe it. What a race, what a tournament for me," said Schippers.

"My start was not so good but it's OK. I tried to stay relaxed in the curve. Out of the curve I see that the Jamaican girl is a little ahead of me and I tried to stay relaxed, especially in the last 30, 40m and that's why I won," added the 23-year-old Dutch sprinter. Endi
