Belgium increases threat level for embassies to Level 3

Xinhua, August 28, 2015 Adjust font size:

The level of threat has been increased to Level 3 for all embassies, Belgian Minister of Security and Interior Jan Jambon said Friday.

The number of troops deployed in the streets will increase from 160 to 200, and 40 more soldiers will ensure the protection of embassies, he said after a cabinet ministers meeting.

Gunfire erupted last Friday in a Thalys train between Paris and Amsterdam, injuring three people. A few days ago, a jihadist in Syria made new threats against Belgium in an audio recording sent by a instant messaging mobile application.

Following the attack on the Thalys train, Belgium has decided to step up patrols and security control in trains and stations of the country.

Belgian Minister of Justice Koen Geens on Monday put forward four points of action to fight against arms trafficking in the country.

In addition, the Belgian Ministry of Justice on Wednesday decided to reorganize, from Sept. 1, its troops to fight against terrorism and radicalism. Endit
