Tianna Bartoletta of the United States won her second women's long jump world title at the world athletics championships in Beijing on Friday.

As a 19-year-old just over a decade ago, Bartoletta pulled off one of the big upsets of the 2005 world championships to win the world long jump title.

After years of only a half-hearted commitment to the event and focusing more of her attention on sprinting, she returned to serious jumping last year.

The American took the lead for the first time in the final when she jumped 7.14 meters with her last attempt, which brought her the title.

Shara Proctor of Britain took silver with a personal best of 7.07m, and Ivana Spanovic of Serbia was third at 7.01.

"I won the 2005 world championships and now also the 2015 world championships. I can not say that I did not think about my title in 2005 when I came here. I am delighted to execute the competition the same way," said Bartoletta, who was also a gold medalist at the London Games with the US 4x100m relay team.

Prior to the final, Bartoletta had been the only woman to go out to seven meters or farther in 2015, but the high quality rivalry pushed the athletes to their limits, with the top three all going beyond seven meters.

"It was a great competition, I expected that as it's world championships. When it was my time on the runway, I just want to show myself," Bartoletta added. Endi
