Tunisian guard killed in attack on border with Algeria

Xinhua, August 24, 2015 Adjust font size:

A Tunisian border guard has been killed and three others injured in a militant attack on the border with Algeria, official news agency TAP reported on Monday.

The attack took place late on Sunday when gunmen targeted a customs patrol in Mountain Esnak in Bouchebka, Kasserine, according to the report.

On Wednesday, a Tunisian policeman was shot dead and another injured when two gunmen opened fire on them in the coastal city of Sousse.

In June, a jihadist gunman attacked a resort in Sousse and killed 30 Britons and eight other tourists in one of the deadliest terrorist attacks in the country's history.

A week after the attack, the Tunisian presidency declared a state of emergency in the country.

The mountainous region near the Algerian border has been witnessing an ongoing war between security forces and armed extremists who hide in the area.

Four mountains were declared closed military zones following similar incidents. Endit
