Tokyo shares ended sharply lower with its benchmark Nikkei stocks index plunged over 4 percent on Monday as sentiment here was hit by concerns over global economy and fast advanced yen.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average tumbled 895.15 points, or 4. 61 percent, from Friday at 18,540.68, hitting the lowest closing level in about six months.
The turnover was about 4,107.5 billion yen (about 33.94 billion U.S. dollars).

BEIJING -- China stocks nosedived on Monday with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index dropping 8.49 percent to close at 3209.91 points, the sharpest decline since Feb. 27, 2007. The smaller Shenzhen Component Index fell 7.83 percent to close at 10,970.29 points. The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq- style board of growth enterprises, lost 8.08 percent to end at 2, 152.61 points.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks dropped 1,158.05 points, or 5.17 percent, to close on Monday at 21,251.57 points.
The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 21,136.48 and 21, 679.45. Turnover totaled 138.97 billion HK dollars (17.93 billion U.S. dollars).

SEOUL -- Seoul shares ended lower on Monday.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) plunged 46.26 points, or 2.47 percent, to 1,829.81 at the close. Trading volume stood at 410.17 million shares worth 6.1 trillion won (5.1 billion U.S. dollars).

SYDNEY -- The Australian share market has closed four percent lower in its worst performance in more than six years, closing to a two-year low on Monday.
At the close on Monday, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index was 213. 3 points, or 4.09 percent, lower at 5,001.3, while the broader All Ordinaries index was down 210.6 points, or 4.03 per cent, at 5,014. 2.

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 6.7 percent lower on Monday.
The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index decreased by 487. 97 points to 6791.01. The all-share index went down by 276.42 points, or 6.65 percent, to 3881.70.
Trading volume reached 2.37 billion shares worth 13.03 billion pesos (281.01 million U.S. dollars).

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in southern Vietnam,closed at 526.93 points on Monday, down 29.37 points, or 5.28 percent, against last Friday 's closing session.
About 174.559 million shares worth 3.105 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND) (141.84 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the southern HCM City Stock Exchange.
VN30-Index, the new benchmark index for the southern bourse, which tracks the 30 leading stocks by both market capitalization and liquidity, closed at 558.92 points, down 28.91 points, or 4.92 percent.
