Protest against federal province turns violent in W. Nepal, 4 policemen killed

Four policemen including a Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) have been killed Monday in a clash between police and protesters in the far western development district Kailali of Nepal.

The situation turned violent after protesters, who were demanding autonomous "Tharuwat" province, entered a restricted zone.

The district administration office has imposed a curfew in the district to control the agitation.

Four policemen including SSP Laxman Neupane have reportedly been killed with weapons. More than 30 other security personnel have sustained injuries in the clash whereas a number of protesters have also been killed.

However, more details are yet to be ascertained as the government has not made any official statements.

Meanwhile, the meeting of the central security committee headed by Home Minister Bamdev Gautam is underway in Kathmandu.

There has been a series of protests in the far western region over the past few days against the proposed names and delineation of federal provinces. Endi
