Built in 497 B.C. during the Spring and Autumn Period (770-476 B.C.) and destroyed in 979 during the Northern Song Dynasty (A.D. 960-1127), Jinyang Ancient City is the old city of Taiyuan. Covering an area of about 200 square kilometers, the relics of the ancient city contain the site of a town, the remains of tombs and relics of sacrificial ceremonies. The site is of high value to archeological research.
