Asian experience beneficial to world's peaceful development: Chinese FM

Asian countries should inherit an important experience drawn from the historical lessons in order to keep peace and security in the world, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said here on Thursday.

Speaking at the 22nd ASEAN regional forum, Wang said this year marks the 70th anniversary of World War II victory, 70th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations as well as the establishment of ASEAN community.

Against the backdrop, countries should draw important lessons from history, while actively exploring the building of new pattern of international relations, he said. Purposes and principles of the UN Charter should be upheld to strive to maintain the cause of world peace and development.

Wang pointed out that the rise of Asia has been the most significant change to the global geopolitical landscape since the WWII. In the process, Asian countries have formed a way of cooperation based on mutual respect, consensus and being considerate to each other, while developing the idea and practice of win-win cooperation.

These are the precious experience that should be passed on to the future generation, he said.According to Wang, politically, Asian countries should strive for inclusive and constructive regional partnership, which is not targeting any third party and without a presumed enemy.

Economically, they should work for integrative development, stick to an open regionalism and push for complementarity in trade arrangement and cooperation mechanism. China welcomed the participation of all parties in the China-proposed "Belt and Road" initiative and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, he said.

The Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2013, are aimed at reviving the ancient trade routes that span Asia, Africa and Europe.

On security, Asian countries should realize a shared safe environment, establish a new security concept, advocate and implement a mutual, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable Asian security concept, explore ways to build a cooperative framework of equal, transparent and inclusive security collaboration, and develop a road of shared security based on common construction and win-win cooperation.

Wang expressed his hope that the forum should focus on enhancing mutual trust, deepening non-traditional security cooperation, boosting interactions between major countries and building a regional security cooperation framework in the long run, so as to explore preventive diplomacy in accordance with the regional reality.
