Spain's housing sales increase by 17 pct in June

Spanish housing sales rose by 17 percent in June compared with the same month a year earlier, Spain's Statistical Office (INE) reported Wednesday.

A total of 30,578 operations were registered in June, the INE said, with sales of second-hand houses increasing by 44.5 percent to 23,947 operations and sales of new houses falling by 30.6 percent to 6,631 operations.

The INE reported that sales of non-subsidized houses rose by 16.4 percent in June when compared with the same month a year earlier to 27,493 operations, which represented 89.9 percent of the total.

On the other hand, sales of subsidized houses rose by 22.8 percent to 3,085 operations, which accounted for 10.1 percent of the total.

Housing sales have been rising for 10 months on a year-on-year basis, the INE said, while also reporting that sales increased by 3.8 percent on a month-to-month basis and by 9.8 percent in the first six months of the year in comparison with the same period a year earlier. Endit
