India likely to testfire Barak 8 missiles this month

Xinhua, August 2, 2015 Adjust font size:

India is likely to testfire its long-range, surface-to-air Barak 8 missile this month, sources said Sunday.

"The missile, jointly developed by India and Israel, will be testfired first by Israel this month. If it turns out to be a successful one, then India will testfire another missile from a warship," the sources said.

If both the testfirings are successful, then India is likely to deploy the missiles on board its naval warships, they said.

Barak missiles, with a range of 70 km, can deter incoming missiles, aircraft and drones, and the key feature of the missile is Israel-made MF-STAR radar system that can track targets up to 250 km. Endi
