Sun Yang dominates 400m free heats

Olympic champion Sun Yang of China dominated the men's 400-meter freestyle heats at the Kazan worlds here on Sunday.

Sun touched in three minutes 44.99 seconds to lead the overall rankings of the heats. Britain's James Guy finished second in 3:45.37, while Canadian Ryan Cochrane was third in 3:45.86.

Mack Horton of Australia, who holds the fastest time of the year, only finished in the 11th with 3:47.37.

The final will be held later Sunday.

China's Ye Shiwen finished fifth in the women's 200m individual medley preliminary to make the semifinal, while Shi Yang qualified for the men's 50m butterfly semis.

"I hope I can make the podium this time," said Ye.

China also make the final of the men's 4x100m freestyle relay with an eighth finish in the heats in 3:15.47. Russia led the heats in 3:12.16. The United States and Australia failed to qualify for the final. Endi
