Nigeria picks 26 basketball players for Afrobasket championship

Nigeria on Wednesday released a list of 26 players to represent Nigeria at the Africa basketball championship in Tunisia.

Spokesperson for the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) Patrick Omorodion said in a statement reaching Xinhua in Lagos, the nation's business hub that Nigeria's basketball national team, the D' Tigers, would go to Tunisia in search of their first ever Afrobasket crown.

D' Tigers had in the past suffered disappointing outings, the recent of which was loosing out to Senegal in the quarterfinals of the competition in 2013.

The statement quoted William Voigt, new coach of the national basketball team, saying the team was ready to rule Africa for the first time in Tunisia.

The team is headlined by NBA Stars, Alfarouq Aminu and Ekpe Udoh, who will make their first appearance for Nigeria.

The D' Tigers will take off on Wednesday night for Paris, France to participate in an invitational tournament from July 22-27.

They will continue their preparation in Paris and leave for Tunisia on August 15 for the competition which runs from August 19-30. Endi
