Sport Recife scored either side of halftime to defeat nine-man Sao Paulo 2-0 in Brazil's Serie A championship on Sunday.

Elber opened the scoring just after the half-hour mark at Sport's Arena Pernambuco before Ferrugem added a second goal for his team in the 93rd minute.

Sao Paulo saw their chances of victory all but fade when Paulo Henrique Ganso and Luis Fabiano were dismissed for second yellow cards with less than 10 minutes remaining.

The result lifted Sport to fourth in the standings with 27 points from 14 matches, three points ahead of seventh-placed Sao Paulo.
