Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has confirmed that he met on Friday with management members of Italian energy giant Enel, the majority owner of Slovak Elektrarne (SE) energy utility.
"We talked only about completing the construction of third and fourth blocks at Mochovce nuclear power plant," stressed Fico on Friday.
He pointed out that regular talks with Enel management on construction works, their timetables and overall progress are natural in light of the fact that the project of completing the construction of Mochovce nuclear blocks represents one of the largest investments in central Europe.
Fico reiterated that the construction of third and fourth blocks remains a high priority for the cabinet. "However, Slovakia finds itself at the short end of the stick at SE because it has been privatized, with 66 percent of the stocks being under control of Enel, which also bears full responsibility for the building of the third and fourth blocks," added Fico.
SE represents the largest energy utility in Slovakia, which produces approximately 82 percent of electricity generated in Slovakia. The company's stockholders are Enel with 66 percent and the Slovak Economy Ministry with 34 percent. Endit
