Xinhua, July 17, 2015 Adjust font size:

Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Hor Namhong on Friday expressed his gratitude to Russia for backing Cambodia as a dialogue partner of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), a spokesman said.

Hor Namhong made the remarks during a meeting with visiting Russian Minister of Communications and Mass Media Nikolay Nikiforov, Chum Sounry, spokesman for the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs told reporters after the meeting.

According to the spokesman, Nikiforov also congratulated Cambodia on being granted the status of a SCO dialogue partner.

SCO leaders -- China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan -- took in Cambodia as one of its new dialogue partners on July 10 at the 15th SCO summit in the southwestern Russian city of Ufa.

Nikiforov said his visit to Cambodia was to explore ways to enhance bilateral ties and cooperation between the two countries, particularly in economy, trade, science and technology.

During the meeting, both sides agreed that there should be the visit exchange of the leaders of the two countries in order to celebrate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2016.

In Cambodia, Nikiforov is also scheduled to meet with Cambodian Commerce Minister Sun Chanthol and Secretary General of the Council for Development of Cambodia Sok Chenda Sophea as well as to attend a business forum on Saturday. Endi
