(Sports) No. 1 all-rounder Shakib reaches 200 wicket landmark in ODI

Xinhua, July 15, 2015 Adjust font size:

Star cricketer and now number one world all-rounder in all three cricket formats Shakib Al Hasan has reached another milestone completing his 200 wickets haul in ODI.

Shakib, born on March 24, 1987, Magura, Jessore, Bangladesh, is the second cricketer for Bangladesh after the highest wicket-taker Abdur Razzak 207 wickets.

The achievement came through dismissing Faf du Plessis and South Africa's skipper Hashim Amla in the rain-hit series decider battle of the three-match National Polymer ODI Cricket Series at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong, southeastern Bangladesh, on Wednesday.

He is now playing the 156th ODI matches conceding 5,685 runs with an average 28.42, including the best 4 for 16. The match was delayed by the rain.

A talented left-hand batsman and left-arm spinner, Shakib Al Hasan is unarguably the best cricketer that Bangladesh has ever had.

As a bowler, he is accurate, consistent, and canny; and his aggression and a wide range of strokes are the keys to his batting.

Even more importantly, he has self-belief and excellent temperament, unflustered by the big occasion and ready to do battle against the top teams.

Bangladesh ODI skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza needs one more wicket to be the third cricketer to touch 200 wickets mark in ODI.

He can achieve this in this match against the Proteas as he has so far claimed 199 wickets for 6,158 runs with an average 30.94, including best 6 for 26 in 157 matches.

South Africa was 78/4 (23.0 ov) before the rain halted the match. Endi
