Xinhua, July 13, 2015 Adjust font size:

Seven people have been killed by an explosion at a village market in Nigeria's northwestern state of Jigawa, a local official said Monday.

Commandant of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps in Jigawa State Muhammadu Gidado Fari told Xinhua the incident occurred last weekend, at Ruba Village located in Kafin Hausa district, when a wielding gas cylinder exploded at a mechanical workshop.

Two other people were injured in the explosion, he said, adding the cause of the explosion was yet to be ascertained.

Operator of the gas cylinder and his apprentice were among the deceased, he said.

"Corpses of those who lost their lives have been taken to their respective families while those who sustained injuries were admitted at Kafin Hausa general hospital in the area," Fari added.

He said the local security outfit has commenced investigation of the tragic incident, while calling on operators of gas cylinders and other related materials to take caution and strictly abide by safety rules in doing their business. Endi
