More than 200 hospitalized in Poland after drug poisoning

Xinhua, July 13, 2015 Adjust font size:

More than 200 were hospitalized after drug poisoning in Poland, it was reported Monday.

The symptoms of poisoning are said to be a result of taking a "designer drug" substance called Strongman.

Polish Prime Minister Ewa Kopacz as well as Health Minister Marian Zembala addressed the press regarding the designer drug problem.

Minister of Internal Affairs Teresa Piotrowska held a meeting with the chief of police on Monday to discuss the fight against this type of drug.

So far, eight have been detained on suspicion of dealing.

Designer drugs refer to a synthesized substance designed to mimic the pharmacological effects of the original drug while at the same time, avoid being classified as illegal and avoid detection in standard drug tests.

The Strongman drug causes attacks of aggression, excitation, anxiety, hallucinations and can possibly lead to cardiac arrest.

Strongman has been added to Poland's list of banned narcotics since the beginning of July.

However, each time the list of banned substances is updated, dealers change the chemical structure of substances and avoid it being classified as an illegal drug. Endit
