The Afghan intelligence agency on Thursday confirmed that another senior leader of Islamic State (IS) branch in Afghanistan died following the recent airstrike in eastern Nanghar province.

"Based on information of National Directorate of Security (NDS), now it has been confirmed that another senior member of Daesh (IS) outfit leadership named Sheikh Maqbul, known as Shahidullah Shaid, has been killed during the recent airstrike in eastern Nangarhar province," NDS, the country's intelligence service, said in a statement.

On Tuesday, the NDS said a U.S. drone strike has killed seven IS members, including the outfit's Number 2 leader Gul Zaman, in the province, 120 km east of Kabul.

Earlier this year, the IS group, mostly active in Iraq and Syria, announced that it has established a province in Khorasan, a historic name for a region that covers Afghanistan, Pakistan and parts of other countries in the region.

The statement did not reveal the exact date of the airstrike which led to deaths of the targeted militants. Endi
