House prices slightly up in eurozone

House prices rose by 0.9 percent in the euro area and by 2.5 percent in the European Union (EU) in the first quarter of 2015 year-on-year, Eurostat, the statistical office of the EU, said on Thursday.

Compared with the fourth quarter of 2014, house prices rose by 0.3 percent in the euro area and by 0.6 percent in the EU.

Among the Member States, the highest annual increases in house prices were recorded in Ireland (16.8 percent), Sweden (11.6 percent), Hungary (9.7 percent) and Britain (8.5 percent), and the largest falls in Latvia (minus 5.8 percent), Italy (minus 3.3 percent), France (minus 1.6 percent) and Slovenia (minus 1.4 percent).

The highest quarterly increases were recorded in Romania, Sweden, Hungary and Denmark, and the largest falls in Belgium, Cyprus and Croatia. Endit
