Merkel kicks off her visit to BiH

Xinhua, July 9, 2015 Adjust font size:

German Chancellor Angela Merkel landed here on Thursday to pay her first official visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH).

Chairman of the Council of Ministers of BiH Denis Zvizdic welcomed Merkel with full state and military honors in front of the parliament building.

Merkel is here to discuss bilateral relations, BiH's integration into the European Union, and reforms during her stay, according to local officials.

She meets with BiH presidency members Mladen Ivanic, Dragan Covic and Bakir Izetbegovic. Merkel and Zvizdic will also visit an exhibition devoted to the Srebrenica massacre, where some 8,000 Muslim men and boys were killed by Bosnian Serb forces in Srebrenica 20 years ago.

The visit is Merkel's last stop on her two-day tour to the Balkan region, during which she also visited Albania and Serbia. Endit
