Roundup: Suicide bombings kill 5, wound 2 in Kabul

Xinhua, July 7, 2015 Adjust font size:

Two suicide blasts, which rocked Afghanistan's capital of Kabul on Tuesday, killed five people, including four attackers, and injured two others, police said.

A suicide bomber blew himself up near an office of the national directorate for security or the country's intelligence agency at around 1:40 p.m. local time (1010 GMT) and triggered a gun battle.

"A terrorist equipped with suicide vest blew himself up next to an office of National Directorate for Security (NDS), killing himself and a guard of the entity on the spot and thus enabling two others to enter inside the compound. Those inside returned fire and killed both within minutes," Kabul Police chief Abdul Rahman Rahimi told reporters at the site of the incident.

Although no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, officials blamed enemies of peace, a reference to the Taliban, for the attack.

In an earlier attack which happened in the 8th police district Tuesday, at least two people including a foreigner were injured.

"One foreign national and a passerby were wounded as a suicide bomber targeted a foreign armored vehicle along a main road in Shah Shahid locality in 8th police district at around 11:30 a.m. local time (0700 GMT)," Kabul police chief Abdul Rahman Rahimi told reporters.

The attacker was killed in his blast, he said.

The targeted Toyota SUV vehicle of the NATO-led Resolute Support (RS) mission was carrying foreign military advisors to the Defense Ministry, according to eyewitnesses.

Several houses and vehicles were damaged in the suicide bombing.

Meanwhile, Zabihullah Mujahid, a self-proclaimed spokesman for the Taliban, said the militants targeted a military convoy of foreign forces and inflicted casualties.

Taliban militants fighting the government to regain power have been launching their annual spring offensive since April 24 across the conflict-ridden country. Endi
