Xinhua, July 7, 2015 Adjust font size:

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on Tuesday commended Montenegro's reform efforts toward membership in NATO and encouraged the country to continue on this path.

He welcomed Montenegro's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Igor Luksic and Justice Minister Zoran Pazin to NATO headquarters to discuss Montenegro's progress and remaining challenges.

The day's meeting of the North Atlantic Council, attended by Luksic and Pazin, was part of intensified and focused talks that NATO is conducting with Montenegro in order to assess whether the country was ready to join the Alliance, according to NATO press release.

At the Wales Summit in September 2014, NATO announced that it would assess by the end of 2015 whether to invite the country to join the Alliance. Endit
