202 Bangladeshis killed in workplace accidents in 6 months

At least 202 workers died at workplace accidents in Bangladesh in the past six months of 2015, according to a survey report released on Wednesday.

The survey report of Safety and Rights Society showed that 202 workers died in 147 separate workplace accidents while in the same period of 2014, 158 workers died in 129 workplace accidents.

Safety and Rights Society, which works for ensuring safety and rights of workers, conducted the survey based on monitoring 26 daily newspapers (15 national and 11 regional newspapers) between January 1 and June 30 of 2015.

The survey found that the highest number of workers (76) died whilst working on construction sites, factories (61) and service organisations (47) (like hotels, workshops, power supply organizations).
