Israeli court sentences Arab Israeli who joined IS to three years in prison

An Israeli court on Wednesday sentenced an Arab Israeli to three years in prison after his attempting to join the Islamic State (IS) group, according to the Court Authority protocols.

The Nazareth District Court on Wednesday sentenced Hamza Magamseh, 23, from the northern Arab village of Yafia, after he was convicted in previous months over charges of membership in a banned organization, conspiracy to commit a crime and illegally leaving the country last year.

The Shin Bet Security Services charged the defendant left in October 2014 to Syria in order to join the IS. He spent 10 days in an IS training camp before leaving and was arrested upon landing in Israel on Oct. 24.

Several Arab Israelis have been arrested in previous months on suspicion they had gone to Syria or were planning to do so and join the IS. Endit
