Thai gov't marks world anti-drug day with drug incineration

Xinhua, June 26, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Thai government incinerated more than 9 tons of confiscated narcotics in central Ayutthaya province on Friday to mark the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, according to the National News Bureau of Thailand.

The incineration of illicit drugs took place at Bang Pa-in Industrial Estate, and was intended to underscore the government's stance against drug abuse and drug crimes of all forms.

The drugs were destroyed in a way harmless to the environment.

Deputy Prime Minister Yongyuth Yuthavong presided over the incineration, in the presence of health officials, drug control officials and foreign diplomats.

The public health ministry managed to bring more than 350,000 drug users into its rehabilitation system in 2014. Endi
