1st LD: Argentinian national kidnaped in N Nigeria: police

Xinhua, June 25, 2015 Adjust font size:

An Argentinian national working on a farm in Nigeria's north central Niger State has been kidnaped by gunmen, local police said Thursday.

The Argentinian, identified as Santiago Lopez Menendez, was on Wednesday kidnaped on a potholed road in Machagu area, located along Mokwa-Kontagora road in the central Nigerian state, Olusola Amore, the provincial police chief told Xinhua.

"We normally provide protection for all foreigners working on farms and elsewhere in the state but Menendez chose to travel alone on the bad road without police protection and they kidnapped him," the police officer said.

It is unclear the expatriate's kidnappers have so far contacted anyone for negotiation on his release as police authorities have kept mum on the information.

However, the security agency has deployed a special anti- kidnapping team and some 10 patrol vans in search of the South American who was employed by the Nigerian Flour Mills Plc, to manage two farms in Kabbugi and Sunti municipal areas in Niger State, added Amore. Endi
