Roundup: India gets consolation ODI win over Bangladesh

Xinhua, June 25, 2015 Adjust font size:

India, who lost the ODI series, managed a consolation win over Bangladesh in the 3rd game and avoided shame of whitewash.

India beat Bangladesh by 77 runs at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on Wednesday night to win in the final game of the three-match ODI series against Bangladesh.

Batting first, the visitors set a target of 317 runs in their allocated 50 overs losing six wickets.

Riding on 75 runs from S Dhawan, the visitors set the fighting target in which captain MS Dhoni contributed 69 runs.

Bangladesh captain Mashrfae Mortaza won the toss and invited India to bat first against the hosts (Tigers).

Mashrafe took three wickets while magic boy Mustafizur Rahman set a new world record bagging two more wickets to 13.

But the success of Mustafiz was not enough to stop the tigers' defeat in the final match.

Tigers were all out for 240 runs chasing the target of 317 runs.

Bangladesh's Sabbir Rahman scored highest 43 runs while Soumya Sarkar made 40 runs.

India's SK Raina grabbed three wickets while DS Kulkarni and R Ashwin took two wickets each to steer their side to the victory in the final game of the three-match series.

Bangladesh had earlier clinched the 2-1 series.

Debutant Mustafizur Rahman set a world record to guide Bangladesh to their first ever one-day trophy win over India with an emphatic six-wicket in Dhaka on Sunday in the second match.

The hosts beat the visitors by 79 runs in the first ODI in Dhaka on 18.

In the first game Tigers outsmarted the Team India in all departments and extracted a sweet revenge for their quarterfinal loss at the hands of the India in the World Cup earlier this year.

Bangladesh in April this year clinched a 3-0 whitewash in their ODI Cricket series against Pakistan. Endi
