New Polish Parliament Speaker elected

Malgorzata Kidawa-Blonska has been elected for the post of Speaker of the lower house of Parliament, the Sejm, on Thursday morning. She is to replace Radoslaw Sikorski, who resigned earlier this month.

Kidawa-Blonska, the former government spokesman obtained the votes of 244 Sejm deputies.

According to Poland's constitution, the Speaker is the second most important official in the state, after the president. The Speaker presides over the Sejm proceedings, protects the Sejm rights and represents it outside. Endit
