Zambian trainer blames players over loss to Namibia in CHAN qualifier

Xinhua, June 23, 2015 Adjust font size:

Stand-in coach of the Zambia national soccer team George Lwandamina has blamed his players over the loss to Namibia in the 2016 African Nations Championship (CHAN) first round first leg qualifier on Sunday, the Zambia Daily Mail reported on Tuesday.

Zambia lost 2-1 to Namibia at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in Windhoek at the start of the qualifications for the CHAN tournament which is open only to players who ply their trade in their country's domestic leagues.

Zambia went ahead in the 15th minute when striker Winston Kalengo scored but Namibia hit back with two goals in the second half.

The Zambian coach said his players lacked concentration in the second half and gave the Brave Warriors too much room.

"We started the first half with a positive approach and we managed to get a goal. We need to learn to start defending when we score because there are teams who win with just a goal," Lwandamina was quoted as saying by the paper upon arrival from Namibia.

Lwandamina has, however, expressed confidence that the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations champions will overturn the deficit in the return leg set for July 5. Endi
