Thai AirAsia's Bangkok-Sapporo flights to be temporarily halted

Xinhua, June 23, 2015 Adjust font size:

Daily flights of a Thai airline between Bangkok and Japan's Sapporo will be called off on temporary basis in the face of a Red Flag suspension imposed on Thai airlines by the International Civil Aviation Organization.

The temporary halt by Japan's Civil Aviation Bureau to the Bangkok-Sapporo route for Thai AirAsia X daily flights which will take effect from the first of August has apparently resulted from the ICAO suspension due to Thailand's failures to solve significant safety concerns, announced the airline's chief executive Nadda Buranasiri on Tuesday.

Other Thai AirAsia X flights between Bangkok and Tokyo or Bangkok and Osaka will be provided as normal.

Nadda suggested those who may already have bought Thai AirAsia tickets to the northern Japanese city fly to Tokyo or Osaka instead or be given a refund.

However, Thai AirAsia X will shortly call on the Japanese authorities to provide leniency in the wake of the declared suspension of its Bangkok-Sapporo flights, he said.

Thai Transport Minister Prajin Juntong earlier confirmed that the Thai aviation authorities will take urgent steps to address the problems about the ICAO safety concerns so that they might cause least possible effects on Thai aviation industry.

It might hopefully take a few months time from now until the ICAO takes off the Red Flag from its website against Thailand, according to the transport minister. Endi
