Roundup: HK stocks close 0.93 pct higher

Hong Kong stocks ended higher on Tuesday with the benchmark Hang Seng index rising 0.93 percent, or 252.61 points to end at 27,333.46 points. Turnover totaled 135.99 billion HK dollars (about 17.48 billion U.S. dollars).

The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index rose 225.79 points, or 1. 69 percent, to close at 13,609.47.

Four sub-indices all gained ground, with the Commerce and Industry sub-index rising the most by 1.43 percent, followed by the Utility 0.73 percent, the Finance 0.68 percent and the Properties 0.43 percent.

Banking giant HSBC, which accounts for the largest weighting of the Hang Seng Index, rose 0.3 percent at 73.70 HK dollars, while its local unit Hang Seng Bank closed up 1.6 percent to 156.10 HK dollars. Local bourse operator HKEX gained 1.1 percent at 286.60 HK dollars.

Local developers Hang Lung Properties jumped 1.9 percent to 23. 75 HK dollars. Henderson Land, another major developer in Hong Kong, grew 0.3 percent to 53.70 HK dollars, and Cheung Kong Holding, a powerful HK-based developer controlled by billionaire Li Ka-shing, climbed 1.5 percent to 118.20 HK dollars.

As for mainland-based financial stocks, China Construction Bank, the country's second largest bank which accounts for the third largest weighting of the Hang Seng Index, went up 2.0 percent to 7. 40 HK dollars. ICBC, the world's largest bank by market value, was up 2.8 percent to 6.63 HK dollars. Bank of China advanced 3.1 percent to 5.40 HK dollars.
