Fish fry release restocks China-Russia border river

Fishery authorities in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province have released fish fry into the Wusuli River along the Sino-Russian border during the annual fishing moratorium to replenish the fish stocks and maintain bio-diversity.

Carp and chub fry were released to the river on Monday, according to the aquaculture station in Heilongjiang's Hulin city.

Since the release scheme started in 1999, more than four million fish fry have been released into the Wusuli River during the summer moratorium.

"The routine fish release has contributed to protection of bio-diversity and the sustainable development of the local fishery industry," said Yan Guixi, a manager with the station.

China and Russia signed an agreement on the protection of resources in border rivers in 1994. They have since cooperated in fishery patrols and environmental protection schemes. Endi
