A total of six attackers on the Afghan parliament were killed and several others injured on Monday, Kabul police chief Abdul Rahman Rahimi said.

"All the six attackers have been killed and the situation is under control," Rahimi told reporters at the parliament compound.

He said a suicide bomber first exploded his explosive-laden car enabling five others to enter the parliament compound.

"One of the attackers was killed in his blast and the remaining five were killed by security forces," Rahimi told reporters.

The police chief confirmed that there were injured people but failed to give figures, saying investigation is underway.

Meanwhile, a local media outlet Tolo News has reported injuring 21 civilians including five women and three children in the incident.

The horrific attack on the parliament began with suicide car bomb at 10:20 a.m. local time and followed by gun shots during which windowpanes of several buildings at nearby were smashed, was over at 12:30 p.m. local time.

Taliban militants have claimed of responsibility for the attack, insisting inflicting huge casualties to the lawmakers, a claim utterly rejected by officials here. Endi
