V4 Chiefs of General Staff agree on two strategic documents

Xinhua, June 20, 2015 Adjust font size:

V4 Chiefs of General Staff agreed on two documents in military cooperation, announced Slovak Chief of General Staff Milan Maxim after negotiations with his counterparts from the rest of the V4 (the Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland) countries and Ukraine on Friday.

According to Maxim, the two documents are an Action Plan for Military Cooperation by the V4 Countries, and a Training and Exercises Strategy -- projects that aim to establish a framework for further cooperation in the context of current regional security challenges.

During the discussions the representatives raised the topic of the V4 countries' modular forces and also the proposed EU Battle Group.

Maxim expects the creation of a V4 Battle Group by the first half of 2016.

"I can say for Slovakia that our contribution is up to 500 people," said Maxim, adding that this concerns in particular a mechanised unit and also a radiation, biological and chemical security unit, a military police unit and other special small formations.

The Czech Republic will take over the V4 presidency from Slovakia in July. According to Czech Chief of General Staff Josef Becvar, the Czech Republic will carefully oversee the final stages in the creation of the EU Battle Group and the process of preparing the troops. Enditem
