Germany will provide a total of around 100 million euros (about 114 million U.S. dollars) for an eight-year initiative to better integrate highly practice-oriented universities of applied sciences with the regional economy, said the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) on Thursday.
German Federal Research Minister Johanna Wanka said: "We have developed the new initiative because we want to extend the positive effects of research-intensive universities of applied sciences."
With the initiative, a systematic and longer-term development of applied research in particular with small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the region in Germany will be promoted, according to BMBF.
"The competitiveness of Germany and our globally recognized professionals training are reflected in the excellent reputation of 'Made in Germany.' We are working to ensure that this remains so in the future. Our initiative brings new momentum to the development of economy and training professionals," said Wanka.
According to BMBF, the initiative is part of the new high-tech strategy, with which the German government establishes links between science and industry, research and society. Endit
