Job vacancy rate slightly down in euro zone

The job vacancy rate in the euro area slightly decreased in the first quarter of this year, according to figures published Thursday by Eurostat, the statistical office of the EU.
The latest figures showed that job vacancy rate in 19-nation bloc was 1.7 percent in the first quarter of 2015, down from 1.8 percent recorded in the previous quarter but stable compared with the first quarter of 2014.
The job vacancy rate in the EU was also 1.7 percent in the first quarter of 2015, stable compared to the previous quarter but up from 1.6 percent in the first quarter of 2014.
Among member states, the highest job vacancy rates recorded in Germany, Britain, Belgium, Sweden and Finland, and the lowest in Latvia, Poland, Portugal and Spain.
Eurostat said the job vacancy rate in the first quarter rose in 16 member states, remained stable in six and fell in five compared to the first quarter of 2014. Endit
