New Slovak minister intends to complete Mochovce nuclear power plant

Xinhua, June 17, 2015 Adjust font size:

Newly appointed economy minister Vazil Hudak announced his intention to see to it the third and fourth reactor blocks of the Mochovce nuclear power plant in Western Slovakia are completed.

Hudak made the announcements at the Presidential Palace here on Tuesday, after Slovak President Andrej Kiska appointed Hudak as the replacement of former economy minister Pavol Pavlis who gave up his post in April over nepotism allegations.

Talking about his other priorities in office, Hudak said: "We should also take a look at how the state could strengthen its position within electricity utility Slovenske Elektrarne (SE), as we've been more of external observers of what's going on inside so far."

Hudak added that ways to boost the state's position in SE should be subject to talks with Italian company Enel, which currently owns 66 percent of the shares in the electricity utility, while the Slovakian state owns the rest. The new minister revealed that he would probably visit Enel headquarters in Rome within a month.

In addition, Hudak said he wanted to continue to support foreign businesses in their plans to invest in Slovakia. Endit
