Spanish treasury places 4.015 bln euros on market

The Spanish treasury on Tuesday placed treasury bills worth 4.015 billion euros (4.510 billion U.S. dollars) on the market registering a demand of around 7.4 billion euros.

A total of 3.331 billion euros worth of 12-month bills carried an average interest rate of 0.248 percent, which was above the 0.015 percent of the previous issue.

The placement also included 683 million euros worth of six-month bills that fetched an average interest rate of 0.126 percent, as opposed to the -0.002 percent of the previous issue.

So far, the Spanish treasury has placed around 79.4 billion euros of medium and long-term debt on the market, which represented 55.9 percent of the country's financial goal of 141.996 billion euros for the year.

Tuesday's auction was marked by negotiations between Greece and its creditors who were unable to reach an agreement on the country's debt crisis. Spain's risk premium surpassed 170 points on Tuesday for the first time since May 2014 due to the uncertainty. Endit
