Argentina's national soccer team was supposed to win but "it forgot to defend" said local press on Sunday referring to the 2-2 draw against Chile on Saturday.
"It could have been a victory with a wide goal margin but it was a bitter defeat," said local daily La Nacion about the result of the Argentine squad led by star Lionel Messi.
La Nacion added that Argentina went from "a clear victory to an unexpected draw", since the Argentine squad began winning 2-0 the match played in La Serena, at 471 km south of Santiago.
Argentina's goals were scored by Sergio "Kun" Aguero and Lionel Messi (penalty), while Paraguay players Nelson Haedo Valdez and Lucas Barrios scored to reach the definite 2-2.
Daily El Clarin said "Argentina was handily winning and it forgot to defend," adding that coach Gerardo Martino "failed in the players change," raising questions about the team's strategy.
According to daily Tiempo Argentino, the 2-2 draw "tasted like a defeat" and highlighted Messi's words who said "We fall asleep." Also, daily Cronica said the game was "debut and disappointment".
Next Tuesday, Argentina will face current champion Uruguay, who defeated Jamaica, Chile's next rival, with a score of 1-0. Endi
