Uganda' s netball team travels South Africa for Diamond Cup

The She Cranes, Uganda' s national netball team on Sunday left for Durban, South Africa to participate in the four-nations Diamond Cup.

"We are determined to go and make good use of this tournament in-order to prepare well for the 2015 World Cup in Australia," said team captain Peace Proscovia who plays professional netball in Britain.

Susan Nowell Anek Ongom, the President of the Uganda Netball Federation told Xinhua before take off that they are very determined to perform well in South Africa, Namibia and at the World Cup.

"The South Africa event will help us train better before we go for the African Championships on June 27 in Namibia," said Ongom.

Head coach Fred Mugerwa said the event in South Africa will provide a good ground to assess the condition of his team because they will play against the other nations that will represent Africa at the World Cup like South Africa, Malawi and Zambia.

The other teams that will compete at the 2015 Netball World Cup include hosts Australia, New Zealand, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, England, Jamaica, Scotland, Samoa, Singapore and Sri Lanka.

The Uganda squad includes Peace Proscovia (Captain), Hadija Nakabuye, Stella Ayera, Halima Nakachwa, Harriet Apako, Jesca Achan, Betty Namukasa, Lillian Ajio, Florence Nanyonga, Alice Sempala Nanteza, Enid Abalo, Martha Soigi, Racheal Nanyonga, Susan Atino. Endi
