The International Community in Nepal on Wednesday applauded a 16-point deal on a new constitution reached among Nepal's major parties.
"The international community welcomes the spirit of unity that the Nepali political leaders have displayed in reaching an agreement on a new constitution, " Jamie McGoldrick, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Nepal said on Wednesday in a statement issued on behalf of the international community in Nepal.
Nepal's major political parties struck the 16-point deal on June 8 aiming to ensure the promulgation of the post-monarchy constitution.
According to the deal, the country would be federated into eight provinces on the basis of economic viability and identity through the new constitution.
Stating that the agreement is a remarkable achievement during a difficult period following the major earthquakes of April and May, the UN resident coordinator said it is a significant step forward in the peace process and towards the completion of the foundational document that will guide the country's future development.
"International community encourages Nepal's political forces to redouble efforts to complete the constitution drafting process in the spirit of compromise and the broad aspirations of the Nepali people," the statement said
On behalf of the international community, McGoldrick has reaffirmed support to the peace process and reconstruction in Nepal. Endi
