A total of 18 people were killed and 36 others wounded in separate bomb attacks and airstrikes targeting positions of Islamic State (IS) militants in central Iraq on Wednesday, security source told Xinhua.

One of the attacks occurred in the afternoon in the northern part of the Iraqi capital of Baghdad, when a suicide bomber detonated his explosive-laden car in al-Sadrain intersection at the entrance the Shiite district of Shula, leaving at least five people killed and some 17 others wounded, an Interior Ministry source said on condition of anonymity. ADEN, Yemen -- Three members of the Yemen-based al-Qaida branch were killed in a U.S. drone strike in Yemen's southeastern province of Hadramout, a government official told Xinhua Wednesday.

"The U.S. drone pounded two motorcycles with four missiles in the coastal city of Mukalla, Hadramout's provincial capital, killing three terrorists including a commander," the local official said on condition of anonymity. (Yemen-U.S.-Drone)

LUXOR, Egypt -- Egyptian police foiled a suicide attack Wednesday near Karnak Tourist Temple in the Upper Egypt city of Luxor, security sources told Xinhua.

According to the sources, four terrorists with machine guns tried to break into the tourist site, but the police guarding the temple opened fire at them, killing two of the attackers. (Egypty-Suicide-Attack)

SOFIA -- Bulgarian government on Wednesday approved amendments to four laws aimed at banning suspected terrorists from entering the country's territory amid the growing threat to international peace and security, officials said.

The amendments to the laws on Bulgarian Identity Documents, State Agency for National Security, Foreigners in the Republic of Bulgaria, and Asylum and Refugees Act would contribute to restricting the entry, transit and exit from the country of persons against whom there is evidence that they are involved in terrorist activities, the government said in a press release. MADRID -- Spain has experienced its hottest May temperatures for over 50 years according to figures published on Wednesday.
